LINKS WITH ACADEMIC INSTITUTES IN CHINA

The Institute participated numbers in a number of symposia since its establishment in 2002.

Symposium on Comparison of Christianity and Daoism Ethic held by Sichuan University from 29 to 31 Oct. 2004. Symposium on Christianity and Civic Society held by Center for the Study of Christianity, Chinese Academy of Social Science from 10 to 12 Dec.2004. Symposium on Religion and Ethics held by Faith Cultural Institute from 25 to 27 Feb. 2005. International Symposium on Religion and Modernization held by Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and cosponsored by Center for the Study of Christianity, Chinese Academy of Social Science from 14-15 Apr. 2005. From 29 to 30 Jul. 2005 the Institute participated the conference on Harmonious Society and Religion held by Religious Culture Press. On 11 Aug. 2005 the Institute held a conference in Erzhan Village on Remembering of Fr. Zhang Qintong and 60 Anniversary of Anti-Japanese War. The symposium of Philarchisophia and Classics in Hong Kong from 16 to18 Aug. 2005 held by Holy Spirit Seminary. From 15 to 18 Oct. 2005 the Institute participated the international symposium Christian Social Theory and Social Responsibility held by Center for the Study of Christianity, Chinese Academy of Social Science and co-sponsored by Misereor. The forum on The Influence of Christianity in Contemporary Chinese Society from 18 to 20 Oct. 2005 held by The Institute for the Study of Christian Culture of Renmin University of China. The symposium on Christianity and Cross Cultural Dialogue from 7 to 10 Dec.2005 held by Center for the Study of Christianity, Chinese Academy of Social Science. The international symposium on Translation and Hermeneutics of Classics from 7 to 10 Jun. 2006 held by philosophic department of Fudan University. The international symposium on Theological Aesthetics from 24 to 28 Sept. 2006 held by Institute of Theological Aesthetics of Xiangfan University.

LINKS WITH ACADEMIC INSTITUTES OVERSEAS

BISCC received a group of academics from Britain on October 11th 2004, organized by Cultural Exchange with China. The topic of Discussion was “the Challenges for Christianity Today”.

From May 10 ?0, 2006, on the Invitation of Cultural Exchange with China, UK, The Institute organized a delegation and the theme was “Christian Faith in Globalised Society”. The delegation included Fr. Dr. Zhao Jianmin, director of the Beijing Institute, Prof. Yang Huilin, director of the Institute for the Study of Christian Culture of Renmin University of China, Prof. Wang Meixiu, researcher from the Center for the Study of Christianity, Chinese Academy of Social Science, and Fr.Yang Yu, teacher of Beijing Seminary. Exchange took place with the following academic centers- St. Edmund's College, Cambridge; Heythrop College, University of London; Theological Department of Birmingham University; Theological Department of Liverpool Hope University and received by Prof. Gerald Pillay, Vice Chancellor and Rector; The Institute of Chinese Studies, Oxford; and the Committee for other Faiths of Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales. The delegation was also received by Cardinal Murphy O'Connor and Bishop John Austin representing the Archbishop of Canterbury visited Lambeth Palace. 21 Oct.2006 Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, visited BISCC during his visit in Beijing.

From Jan. to June, 2005 and Jan. to June, 2006, the Institute sent two students from the Basic Catholic Theological Programme to Catholic Theological Union, Chicago, USA, for studying one semester theology. September 2006, the Institute recommended one student from the Basic Catholic Theological Programme to the Center of Catholic Studies in the Chinese University of Hong Gong to study one year MA.
